“These essays suggest, inform, provoke, inspire, and (in the deepest sense) educate. And because they so often deal with the new and the unexpected, they open doors to new visions of what might be, what should be.”
—From the Foreword by Maxine Greene
Releasing the possibilities of teacher preparation through aesthetic education!
Even with a growing emphasis on the reform of teacher education throughout the nation, few innovative ideas have emerged that hold promise. This book, which describes a thought-provoking collaboration between eight colleges/universities of teacher education and Lincoln Center Institute (LCI), offers hope for public education that is dramatically improved by non-traditional educational methods. Twenty educators and teaching artists come together in this collection to present their perspectives on the LCI Teacher Education Collaborative and describe their experiences with colleagues and students in the process of incorporating aesthetic education (based on the work of Maxine Greene who serves as LCI’s philosopher-in-residence) across the teacher education curriculum.
Madeleine Fuchs Holzer is program development director at Lincoln Center Institute, and was director of Arts in Education at the New York State Council on the Arts. Scott Noppe-Brandon is executive director of Lincoln Center Institute and president of the Association of Institutes for Aesthetic Education.
